Almost everything that goes wrong is one of five things. They are below, in the order people hit them.

Which app?

Each app has its own page. Pick the one you are using.

SP Dashcam — iPhone & Android

Your car's loop and sentry recordings, on your phone. Privacy

SP GPS Tracker — iPhone & Android

Your vehicle on a map, reading from your own Traccar server. Privacy

The head unit

How it works

Your head unit runs a small companion service. The on-screen tools — the sidebar, the map strip, the battery card, the app store — all talk to it. When that service stops, they stop with it. SP Service Starter brings it back.

The service does not survive a power cycle on every car. If the tools worked yesterday and are blank today, that is what happened, and one button fixes it.

Common problems

The app can't find the car

The phone and the head unit have to be on the same Wi-Fi network. Either way round works: the car providing the network, or the car joined to your phone's hotspot. Check both ends are actually on it — a phone that silently fell back to mobile data is the usual cause.

If they are on the same network and discovery still finds nothing, the head unit's wireless debugging is switched off. Turn it on from the car, or use SP Service Starter on a laptop once — that turns it back on over the cable, and the phone can take over afterwards.

It found the car yesterday, not today

The head unit turns wireless debugging off again at every reboot. That is the car's behaviour, not a fault in the app, and no setting makes it stick.

After a reboot, connect once with SP Service Starter and a cable. From then on the phone works again until the next power cycle.

The car refuses the connection

The first time a phone or laptop connects, the head unit asks whether to trust it. The prompt appears on the car's screen, not on the phone. If nobody taps Allow — or the screen was asleep — the connection is refused, and the app can only report that it could not reach the car.

Wake the centre screen, try again, and watch the car while you do. Tick always allow from this device so it is not asked again.

The service starts, then stops a minute later

Something else restarted the car's debug bridge underneath it. Start the service once more and leave it — the second start holds.

If it keeps happening, restart the head unit (hold the power button until the screen goes black), wait for it to come all the way back, then start the service once.

What does Upgrade do?

It replaces the service on the car with the newest published build, then restarts it. The file is checked against a published fingerprint before it is installed, and the old one is kept — if the new build does not answer, the car puts the previous one back on its own.

The button only appears when the car is actually behind. Nothing is stored on your phone permanently.

Good to know

Still stuck

Write with the car model, what you pressed, and what the app said. A photo of the screen is worth more than a description.
